Character & Leadership Programs

We empower youth to support their community, build relationships, develop self-image, engage in democracy, and respect cultural identities.

Developing A Positive Self-Image

Programs in this area empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect the many cultural identities.

  • Torch Club (Ages 11-13) – A leadership and service club that helps younger adolescents build character and develop leadership skills through group activities.
  • Keystone Clubs (Ages 14-18) – A comprehensive program for teens that focuses on leadership development, academic success, career preparation, and community service, guided by adult mentors.
  • Youth of the Year (All Ages) – Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program that honors exceptional young leaders, preparing them to thrive in a diverse and global world. Each year a national competition is held for high school Club members. They compete at local, state, regional and national levels. Our Clubs in Cedar Rapids have had eight Youths of the Year since opening our doors in 1993, including one national Youth of the Year winner, Stacey Walker.

Through these programs, youth gain the tools and experiences they need to lead with confidence, integrity, and a sense of responsibility.
