At age 4 Stacey’s mother was murdered. This loss was a huge tragedy, but his grandmother stepped in, bringing the light back to Stacey’s life. He was introduced to the Boys & Girls Club where he grew from a member to a mentor, role model & Junior Staff. Stacey’s natural leadership skills skyrocketed as he lead the Club’s Passport to Manhood program. From this leadership role, he went on to be named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2006 National Youth of the Year. He is the only Club member from the Corridor who has received this national honor.
From National Youth of the Year, to a University of Iowa Graduate in Political Science to working for Steve Case, Chairperson of President Obama’s Council for Economic Competitiveness, Stacey has now returned to Iowa where he has become the first African American and youngest Chairperson of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.
Thank you for sharing your success story with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor!
